What We Say

Broken Social Scene, Canada’s sensational indie rock artists are bringing their signature sounds to the Aragon Ballroom! Broken Social Scene was formed in Toronto in 1999 by Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning. It’s a musical collective featuring anywhere between 6 and 19 musicians (with Kevin and Brendan as constant members). Over the years, their musical style has spanned many genres such as indie rock (a genre of alternative rock that originated in the United States and the United Kingdom in the 1980s, encapsulating the genres chamber pop, indie pop, lo fi, math rock, neo psychedelia, post punk revival, sadcore, and shoegazing), experimental rock, noise pop (a subgenre of alternative rock - developed in the mid 1980s in the UK and US - that mixes dissonant noise or feedback, or both, with the melodic instrumentation and production elements more often found in pop music, making it more melodic than noise rock), and post rock (a form of experimental rock characterized by the influence and use of instruments commonly associated with rock music, but using rhythms not traditionally found in it). They’ve had a stellar career with 4 studio albums and they’ve received many accolades including 2 Juno Awards. Their latest album (Hug Of Thunder) comes out in July 2017.
