Modest Mouse Enlists Fan, Radio Station To Preview "Lampshades On Fire"

Modest Mouse announced a new album, the long-awaited follow-up to 2009’s No One’s First And You’re Next. The band’s new record is titled Strangers To Ourselves and is out March 3, with the first single, “Lampshades On Fire,” out Tuesday, December 16 but streaming from 89.3 The Current today.

The band apparently sent a test pressing of the new single to a fan with a note attached providing the single’s release date as well as title and release date of the record.

Modest Mouse cancelled tour dates in 2013 to focus on recording, and the band notably recorded with Nirvana’s Krist Novoselic as well as Outkast’s Big Boi in recent years.

Because No One’s First And You’re Next compiled b-sides and unreleased songs from the sessions for We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank, the new record represents the band’s first recording sessions since 2007. However, the band has been debuting new songs for years, including “Lampshades On Fire.”
