While we share a good amount of music around here, we generally stick to authorized recording or "liberated bootlegs" and we can't in good faith condone piracy. Of course, the traditional argument in favor of buying your music is to support the artist. However, the creator of this graphic, published initially at GraphJam, demonstrates that the artist isn't the only beneficiary of your CD (or iTunes) dollar. In fact, they see only a small fraction.
Of note... a source of the data was not provided, but I don't question the directional veracity of the message. At the end of the day, musicians earn their wage from touring and merchandise. Go see live music!
