Summary

Influential Chicago-based indie band The Sea And Cake will perform two intimate shows at The Empty Bottle in May. A chance to see a vital force in the city's early indie scene at one of its most important venues, these are truly a treat and will surely sell out quickly.

What We Say

Influential indie rock band THE SEA & CAKE has been a point of pride for Chicago for over twenty years now, releasing over dozen fantastic albums on the inimitable Thrill Jockey Records in between world tours and various other projects (TORTOISE, COCTAILS & GASTR DEL SOUL, to name a few). Their light, jazz-influenced pop rock has marked them as a band that, according to The Onion, "loves its formula enough to tease it." Their newest record, Runner, has the core elements of the utterly unique SEA & CAKE sound, while introducing a more experimental approach to the song's textures and structures. Many of the tracks began as synthesizer experiments in SAM PREKOP's home studio and were reimagined by other members before they were eventually recorded and mixed at JOHN MCINTIRE's Soma Studios in Chicago. Almost four years since the trio’s played here and it makes complete sense that we round out this return with not one, but TWO shows for the incredible THE SEA & CAKE.
