I can't imagine the conversation lasted very long when trying to determine a a location to celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Meters.

The Fairgrounds at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival -- specifically the Gentilly Stage on the closing Sunday of the event -- is a slam dunk.

We're fortunate that our man Nunu was on hand to capture the fire on stage as well as a few intimate backstage moments of this incredible celebration.

The Jazz Fest crowd certainly got what they needed, with the original lineup supplemented by Ivan Neville and a three piece horn section (Jeff Albert, Clarence Johnson III and Khris Royal) giving the funk workouts a little extra oomph for the massive gathering.

While bassist George Porter Jr. is no stranger to countless New Orleans stages during the spring, the combination of all four Meters, the electrified crowd, and the signficant milestone made this gig one to remember.
