Recap / Photos: Steve Earle @ City Winery 2/22/14

a look back at one of his father's 2003 performances
, we were primed and ready for the main event:  a three night stand of Steve Earle, solo and acoustic, at Chicago's City Winery February 21-23.

Heidi Peters was on hand for Saturday night's show capture the event with her typically stunning photography (check out the full gallery below) as the country rock pioneer took to the stage for a career spanning set that included 23 songs before the set closing version of his classic "Copperhead Road".

Earle joked with the attentive City Winery crowd as he banter as prepped his harmomica, "I apologize to anyone in the front row.  This is a very unsanitary instrument.  You're all trying to eat and occasionally what I had for lunch comes out."

The set also included a dedication to recently departed Peter Seeger: "Steve's Hammer" and found Earle switching to mandolin for "Galway Girl".

City Winery has proven an ideal venue for this type of "Evening with…" performance.  Singer-songwriter Richard Thompson will hold court there for a three-night all request run starting tonight.
