String Cheese Incident announced a return to Chicago, adding four midwest dates to their early winter "Roots Run Deep" run, which includes a stop at St. Louis' The Pagaent (December 7) and three consecutive night's at Uptown's Aragon Theater (December 8, 9 and 10). The shows complete a jamband trifecta at the Aragon: starting with Widespread Panic's Halloween night show, continuing with two nights of Umphrey's McGee over Thanksgiving Weekend, and capped by three nights of SCI's diverse, "kitchen sink" brand of jamming.
Existing in a sort of limbo as a band since their break-up in 2007, SCI has "reunited" several times, mostly as isolated single city runs or festival appearances. These Chicago shows come at the end of the first significant tour since retirement. We are always advocates of the practice-makes-perfect philosophy, and feel it always works best when improvisational bands have a chance to expand and enhance their repertoire on stage over time. While these shows perhaps won't scale the heights the band reached playing 100+ shows per year around in the '99-'00 time frame, they will certainly be building up a head of steam and getting ready for the end of tour blow-out in Chicago.
Even more exciting is that these shows were announced as a "second weekend" to the 2011 edition of the Chicago Bluegrass and Blues festival. Currently, there are no details about the first weekend or other or support acts, but we eagerly anticipate seeing what the promoters offer. In 2009 and 2010, The CBB Fest has solid lineups that certainly compliment String Cheese Incident. The Barn will bring you details about and the rest of the fest as well as any after-show options as soon as they become available.
Presale for these shows begin at SCI TICKETING on Wednesday, September 21 at 11:00 a.m., general sale is Friday, September 23 at 11:00 a.m. (Chicago Time)
