It's hard to top Bob Weir when it comes to inspring the next few generations of jammers, but Meters bassist George Porter Jr. likely gives him a good challenge.
That's why it was so satisifying to hear when Bobby hooked up with GPJ in his hometown of New Orleans on Tuesday night. Meters meets Dead is not a mix in the NOLA tradition.
Here's the complete audio shared via YouTube by nognuisagoodgnu. The sit in starts at around 1:39:00 on "Sugaree" with Porter lead vocals (he often covers in sets with his band Runnin' Pardners) and "Bird Song" (a staple of the one time Porter / Kreutzmann band 7 Walkers). The bassist is a semi-frequent collaborator with Weir's Campfire Band guitarist Steve Kimock, so there's plenty of chemistry in these jams.
