Just three weeks prior, Phish had pranked its Colorado fans with an off-the-wall setlist stunt and delivered a brilliant show in the process -- spelling F-U-C-K--Y-O-U-R--F-A-C-E with the first letters of each song in the setlist. Jam lovers had to smile when they saw what Furthur offered at its final stop at Red Rocks Amphitheater, suggesting something a bit more Dead-like to do with your face.
While Phish had their fans on-guard for setlist chicanery after playing an "S" Show at the same venue the year prior, I'm not sure anybody was expecting this from Furthur. The prank was revealed via twitter / Instagram via posting the above photo. Just like Phish inserted the song "Fuck Your Face" into the setlist after the spelling was done, Furthur played "He's Gone" as the capper, which features the lyric "Steal your face right off your head". The best part, the band managed to debut a new song, the Hank Williams classic "You Win Again", a Dead cover from back in the day, as the "Y", before dropping into the Pigpen tune "Operator" for the first time in 40 shows.
The show concluded with one of Furthur's trademark Viola Lee Sandwiches and a Brokedown encore.
