Improvements and repair to Humboldt Park following the combination of rain and foot traffic from Riot Fest are now completed, according to Riot Fest organizers.

Ground damaged from the three-day festival this past September have been reseeded, with topsoil added and aerated, and fencing has been installed to protect the recently repaired areas within the park itself and its baseball fields.

Grounds crew managers reported that all concerns raised by Chicago Parks Department have been addressed, according to a press release.

“We take great pride in calling Humboldt Park our home- in both a ‘park’ sense, but more importantly, a community sense- and there is nothing more important than making certain that our relationship with residents stays strong and fluid,” said Riot Fest founder Michael A. Petryshyn in the release.

As well as repairing the damaged city park, Riot Fest announced participation in the largest turkey drive in Chicago. Partnering with the 26th Ward Office and Alderman Roberto Maldonado, Riot Fest will donate 600 turkeys to be distributed to 26th Ward families in need on Monday, November 24.

The news of Riot Fest’s charity involvement coincides with the formation of The Riot Fest Foundation, an organization that will continue to focus on charitable efforts in the Humboldt Park area. The foundation will raise funds for college scholarships, enhancement programs and community-based enrichment programs, according to the news release.
