We at The Barn sincerely thank the bands and fans that came out to help celebrate our second anniversary on Saturday! We hope everybody had as good time as we did. A highly entertaining evening began with a nice set of Phish tunes from The Vasoconstrictors; "Stash" and the set closing jam out of "Down With Disease" were the highlights.
That wouldn't be the only Phish we were treated to that night, as Blotto invited Mike Schroeder to join behind the kit for a killer version of "The Wedge", with lead guitarist Mark Hague laying down some sweet licks throughout. That kicked off a trifecta of covers to close the night's festivities, which also included a theatrical, fun "Miss You" (with Paul showing off his best Mick Jagger moves) and a slinky, bass-led "Feel Like A Stranger", which pleased many of us who had attended the Furthur show the previous night.
Blotto's first set was not without it's GD overtones ("Playin'", "Jack-a-roe", "Big River"), but the real treat were standout versions of originals like "What a Fool I Am" and "Durty Women Blues" which found the band locked in with each other and the crowd. This approach culminated in the second set opening "Movie Star", which true to it's nature, provided ample room for improvisation -- a great table setter for the party-centric tunes to come.
Stay tuned for audio and video from this show soon.
