Summary

Twin Peaks may very well be the most exciting musicians coming out of Chicago right now, performign a straightforward classic-rock sound that's almost impossible not to love. Following three sold out nights at Thalia Hall and Metro, the band returns to their hometown for an intimate, sold-out show at Empty Bottle as a benefit of ACLU.

What We Say

Tonight we're teaming up with our pals in TWIN PEAKS, REDGRAVE and DEEPER to host a benefit for the American Civil Liberties Union, a nonpartisan, non-profit organization whose stated mission is "to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed to every person in this country by the Constitution and laws of the United States." Come out and help raise some money for a great organization that's out there fighting the good fight -- we need them now more than ever. This is only the second time TWIN PEAKS has ever played the Empty Bottle stage (as TWIN PEAKS, at least), but it's the second time they've done a benefit. It's pretty inspiring to see "bad dudes" like these going the extra mile for good causes and we're honored to have them host this ACLU benefit tonight. Truth be told, we’ve been fans ever since they first started bubbling up in and around Chicago, but their rapid rise to success saw them jumping our room for bigger venues around town. The band's take on rugged, Nuggets-y rock runs in line with the likes of old EB pals THE BLACK LIPS, TY SEGALL and THEE OH SEES, while also giving subtle nods to everything pre-grunge alt-rock a la the PIXIES to modern-day psych like TAME IMPALA to the godfathers of guitar-guided pop – BEATLES, STONES, BEACH BOYS, etc. – of the 60s and 70s. It's scrappy, old-school rock & roll that still sounds fresh and always goes down smooth. Tonight's shindig was conceived by REDGRAVE lead singer/guitarist ANGIE MEAD, so you've got her to thank for the fireworks that will ensue. This heavy and plodding rock duo has been recording new music to kick off the year, but are no strangers to our stage, last having opened for DEAD MOON way back in July of 2015. DEEPER returns to kick things off, playing their first show since opening the bonkers NE-HI benefit last month, and bringing a fuller, more nuanced sound with a stronger focus on guitar interplay and driving rhythms. On their excellent Fire Talk debut, "Trans," released this past May, DEEPER channels the anxiety and uneasiness of modern life by weaving chiming guitar swirls to a dense climax.
