The Barn's Thanksgiving Mixtape

If you need some tunes to cook by, or just want to get into the Holiday Spirit... here are our jams for the Thanksgiving Holiday.

In classic mix tape format, we've got tunes about giving thanks, family, and the holiday's legend... but mostly about the food.

And like your Thanksgiving plate, it's got a bit of everything.  Funk from Sly and Tower Of Power (featuring Tom Jones!).  There's rock in all flavors: song-driven from Jeff Tweedy and Golden Smog, a little jamming from Widespread Panic and Old Shoe, and some wild psych from Jefferson Airplane. We've got a little soul from the Booker T, The Ohio Players and Dee Dee Sharp, some jazz from Vince Guaraldi, Monk and Paul McCandless. But the true gem has got to be from The Kinks. Those Brits inadvertently describe our holiday in "Maximum Consumption" better than any American probably could.

Unfortunately, Spotify shows its limits here. I had to fall back on Lenny Kravitz's (leftover) version of John Lennon's "Cold Turkey" and a pale copy of the Led Zeppelin classic "Thank You".
