Guitarist Ryley Walker hits Evanston's SPACE this coming Wednesday with his trio, but a trio of a different sort stopped by the The Hideout on Saturday night. Joel Berk (@pfcidb) was on hand and captured audio of the appearance. He has offered a stream of the show to accompany the download hosted at his own sweetblahg.
Here's what Joel had to say:
Ryley Walker & Bill MacKay’s excellent 2015 release Land of Plenty [← FREE DOWNLOAD] found the two guitarists locked in precise, swirling acoustic songs that sounded way too tight to have been written over a few months of improvising together. The project grew even more intense and nuanced after the record came out, so I was excited to hear that the next phase was “going electric” with the addition of master percussionist, Michael Zerang.
Headlining the second night of Chicago Psych Fest VIII: Frozen Mind (a wide-reaching celebration of Chicago psychedelic music at sweetblahg favorite, The Hideout), the Walker/MacKay/Zerang trio wasted no time jumping heads-first into two ~20 minute/multi-section excursions that each sounded pretty damn Dead-y at points (at least to these ears).
When in doubt, jams…so here are two awesome ones.
