Blur Announce First New Album In 12 Years, The Magic Whip

Blur announced The Magic Whip, their first album since 2003’s Think Tank, to be released in the US on April 28.

The announcement, made from a press conference at a Chinese restaurant in London, marked the first definite sign of life for the band since the news that recording sessions were taking place in Hong Kong last year.

Announced with appropriate timing on the start of the Chinese New Year, the album is heavily influenced by the band’s time in Hong Kong, recorded spontaneously and minimally over the course of five days.

Along with the Blur reunion, singer Damon Albarn recently announced his involvement in an Alice In Wonderland musical, as well as the return of Gorillaz.

Though tour plans don’t currently exist for Blur, the band confirmed a performance at Hyde Park in London on June 20.
