We made a plea for more paid shows at this magnificent venue, but free gigs like this kind of soften the blow.
Joel Berk (@pfcidb) was on hand to capture the magic of Tortoise on a late summer Thursday night. Here's what he has to say about the band's evolution this year:
Tortoise has gotten tighter and tighter as this year has worn on, and Jay Pritzker Pavilion in August was no exception. There was a decent amount of overlap with May’s Metro show, but switching up the order and the addition of “Salt the Skies” (my first of 2016!) made for a much more triumphant landing.
Really great set.
