Whosampled.com is an interesting new site that claims to "explore the DNA of modern music". The makers have assembled a massive database of sampled music -- allowing users to explore where songs have been used, by whom and where -- as a means to create a rich web of music exploration.
What to know where that crunchy guitar riff came from in a Beastie Boys tune? It's there. Who has sampled Bob Marley? Check it. They even list covers. There are 1924 Beatles covers in the database alone.
YouTube powers an interactive, multimedia web experience where both the original sample and sampler are compared side by side. Their iPhone app will even scan your music collection and help create your own musical web.
To promote the site, they have produced an insightful analysis report and an Infographic (below), which should shed a little bit of light on this very cool database and app.
