Here's three reasons to check out Elephant Stone at Beat Kitchen on Saturday night.
1. Their music sounds damn cool. They call it Hindi Rock, a term I rarely come across and certainly one I was skeptical of, but the sitar and organ blend together convincingly to recall 60s psychedelia via non Western musical forms -- yet the whole thing is wrapped up tidily in crafty, melodic, even catchy rock.
2. Band leader (sitarist, bassist) Rishi Dhir has lent his sitar to recordings live shows by Black Angels, Brian Jonestown Massacre, the Horrors, the Soundtrack of Our Lives and more.
Here he is onstage with Beck just a few weeks ago.
3. Finally, this couldn't go without notice for a blog that features as many charts and graphs as The Barn. The cover to their 7" Love The Sinner, Hate The Sin is a Venn diagram. Bad-ass design.
