The intriguing Southern Soul Assembly made it's debut at Evanston's SPACE. Featuring SPACE veterans Marc Broussard, JJ Grey, and Anders Osborne as well as newcomer to the Evanston club, Luther Dickinson, this considerable star power led to a pretty quick sell out for the two shows on March 18th. Luckily, there's at least some document of this collective 's coming out party for those who couldn't make it out that night.
Our friends at jambase recently had to privilege of debuting this video from the evening and I'm happy to be able to share it here. Anders describes "I Got A Woman" as a "sad song disguised in a jumpy beat". However you describe it, I believe it's wonderful showcase of the respect that these formidable songwriters have for each other's material and how they work together to get the best out of it.
Check out a full stream of their Atlanta gig over at PanicStream. From the banter on that recording, it sounds like Southern Soul Assembly may be something that continues beyond this spring's tour.
