The buzziest of buzz bands at the 2012 South By Southwest Festival has got to be Alabama Shakes. As luck would have it, the quartet swung through Chicago just the week before, selling out Lincoln Hall and dropping a daytime set as part of a WXRT "Free Sample" at Reggie's before swinging up to Milwaukee that night.
As the emcee notes in the introduction to this recording, about 7000 people will claim to be there, but \only a few hundred could fit into the confines of the South Loop club. As you'll here, those that made it were treated to the very . Opening with the infectious single "Hold On" and featuring cuts from their upcoming LP, Alabama Shakes proved why their blend of southern soul, blues and rock has people talking (and dancing). It's authentic, engrossing and fun.
