We were promised more for Jerry's 75th birthday celebration -- it looks like we're getting it.
GarciaLive Volume Nine: August 11, 1974 – featuring a band anchored by Jerry Garcia & Merl Saunders (Round Records/ATO Records) will release just a few days before the big day (July 28 release, August 1 birthday).
The two set show from the Keystone in Berekely fits nicely across two CDs despite a handful of songs that jam past the 17 minute mark. I think I'm most excited about the recording of a 17 minute "Ain't No Woman Like The One I've Got" -- a song made famous by The Four Tops in a rendition that clocks in at a cool 3:03.
Grateful Dead drummer Bill Kreutzmann, Martin Fierro on flute and saxophone and -- of course -- John Kahn on bass round out the band.
Here's Jimmy Cliff's "The Harder They Come" -- added to Jerry's repetoire in '74 and now a part of the great jamband songbook -- that pushes the 19 minute mark. Full tracklist is below -- not a Garcia original to be found.
