It’s about time for all turkeys to find safe hiding pastures and for folks to start flocking together with family to give thanks and gorge themselves. For fans of Family Groove Company and the Henhouse Prowlers, it is also an excellent time to break the feast with friends as the two long time veterans of the Chicago jam and bluegrass scene respectively share the Martyrs billboard for the first time ever on the 24th.
Each group has recently played packed rooms at both local venues and large music festivals alike. Summer Camp veterans FGC just played to a packed Redstone Room (IA) prior to their yearly Thanksgiving get together. They’ve been throwing this shin dig since 2002 starting at The Wooden Nickel in Highwood before bringing their funky act to Griffin’s, Clearwater Theater (West Dundee), Mayne Stage, and finally Martyrs. I for one am glad it's only a stones throw from my doorsteps and wherever you come from this combo bill is surely not one to miss with something for every groove loving fan looking to strut their tail feathers after wonderful family time.
Another band that played Summer Camp this past year, The Henhouse Prowlers, recently toured the western United States prior to reclaiming their weekly Sexfist Tuesday at Abbey Pub. During their most recent “Sexfist Gives Thanks” Tuesday get together the band displayed appreciation for their loyal fans by giving out a few prize packages throughout the evening. What a bunch of jovial string playing fellas.
Henhouse Prowlers are first to hit the stage after doors open at 9. Followed by a full set from Family Groove Company, along with an extended encore jam with both bands. Make sure you grab your tickets early so you can dance off those extra turkey pounds and stomp your feet as FGC and HHP picks the bones clean.
