Few artists in history have owned a color the way that Prince did purple.
Now, Pantone Inc., the New Jersey company that specializes in color matching and developments, has created an official shade of purple to honor Prince.
The color, created with permission from Prince’s estate, is named “Love Symbol #2,” a reference to his iconic logo and custom piano.
“We are honored to have worked on the development of Love Symbol #2, a distinctive new purple shade created in memory of Prince, ‘the purple one,’” said Laurie Pressman, vice-president of Pantone Color Institute, in a press statement. “A musical icon known for his artistic brilliance, Love Symbol #2 is emblematic of Prince’s distinctive style. Long associated with the purple family, Love Symbol #2 enables Prince’s unique purple shade to be consistently replicated and maintain the same iconic status as the man himself.”
