Users will see a music bar on the bottom of their Uber app after requesting a ride if matched with a music-enabled Uber. By tapping the symbol, users can immediately choose the music in the vehicle and will also be able to control the music for the duration of the ride.
The feature only works for Spotify Premium members, and Uber will begin integrating the feature on Friday, November 21 in select cities, though Chicago is not among them.
The feature will first be featured in New York, London, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Toronto, Mexico City, Nashville, Singapore, Stockholm and Sydney. A number of popular artists will promote the feature on the 21st with exclusive live sessions and ride-alongs.
One has to wonder if the City of Chicago's uneasy relationship with Uber has slowed the rollout of this feature here. Given the other North American cities where this feature is offered, it is likely that Chicago will be part of the next tier of cities for the offering.
Expect news about this sometime after the first of the year.
